Once You Go Country

Once You Go Country, You Can’t Go Back

My cousin came to see me
For a weekend in the country
He needed time away from the busy city life
My pickup truck was playin’
My favorite local station
He rolled his eyes at me and tried to change the dial
I said, “Give it a chance. It won’t be long.
It takes one song, one country song.”

You taste it
You crave it
Like Momma’s home cookin’, you can’t get enough
It fills you, it thrills you
It sticks to your soul and you can’t shake it off
Like new blood in your veins
You’ll never be the same
Once you go country, you can’t go back
Once you go country, you can’t go back

Lost track of time as we drove
Over muddy hills and back roads
He said the city streets were never this much fun
I said, “A man can breathe here
Wide open space and fresh air.”
We drove past farms and fields until the sun sunk down
Then a million stars lit up the sky.
I said, “This is a country night.”

You taste it
You crave it
Like Momma’s home cookin’, you can’t get enough
It fills you, it thrills you
It sticks to your soul and you can’t shake it off
Like new blood in your veins
You’ll never be the same
Once you go country, you can’t go back
Once you go country, you can’t go back

Down at the bonfire that night
A cute green-eyed girl caught his eye
He smiled and said, “I think I’m gonna like it here.”
She made his heart beat crazy
He fell for that country lady
He never went back to those city girls again
Now he wants a farm and a couple of kids
It took one kiss, one country girl’s kiss.

You taste it
You crave it
Like Momma’s home cookin’, you can’t get enough
It fills you, it thrills you
It sticks to your soul and you can’t shake it off
Like new blood in your veins
You’ll never be the same

You taste it
You crave it
Like Momma’s home cookin’, you can’t get enough
It fills you, it thrills you
It sticks to your soul and you can’t shake it off
Like new blood in your veins
You’ll never be the same

Once you go country, you can’t go back
Once you go country, you can’t go back
Once you go country, you can’t go back
Once you go country, you can’t go back
